Oh ! How beautiful small stones ! I like polished stones very much. They were rolling stones: in a river or in ocean. This bird has a long and thin beak. Sure, it eats little worms that it finds in the sand. I wonder why you write "she". You never answer to my so interesting questions and it's so frustrating. Perhaps English grammary is not the same in New Zealand...
I am sorry for not answering Cergie, I promise to answer from now on ;o) I think she is a she because she seems concerned with her appearance. I am sure if she we a he then things would be different!
:'-}, dear friend. It's not a problem you don't answer, it takes so much time and I know you always are so attentive to others. I may read your comments on else blogs and even I wonder how Mrs Nakji can support that you spend much time to do that, but yes from time to time it may be good you answer. zezesi zizi
That's not a magpie Kira's slave. I have couple of magpies aroud me and even they come and drink in my half-barrel. Their cry is ugly, they have black legs and black short beak too and they don't live on sea. They eat all they find as crows. This bird is in French: une échasse blanche. Himantopus Himantopus.

Maybe it's a skinny puffin?
She is a beautiful bird. I love the black and white contrast. And her little red legs. Very cool!!
Nice picture!
