Weekly Animal Pic - Bat

A friend from work was kind enough to let me post this photo of a fruitbat making it's way out for the night. It was taken two weeks ago in a inner city Melbourne (Australia) park. I know a lot of people find bats creepy, but for me they are majestic creatures that put other mammals to shame. I am sad to say I have actually eaten one, it was too boney with not enough meat. I am now one with the bats!

San Nakji for President!

OOOOOH!! It's kinda scary! I've seen bats at Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. They are very cool.

My husband saw a raccooon in the trees last night while walking the dogs! Oh, and we saw bats in Spain too one night. Anything that is nocturnal pretty much screams scary to me!

Bats are fascinating creatures to watch as they swoop through the air at night. I have some good summertime childhood memories of watching the bats. And, oh, I just heard that the flash of a camera flash upsets them even though they don't see. Fascinating.

Austin in home to the largest Mexican bat colony in the world, at least I'm told. And they come out at night, millions of em.
