Weekly Animal Pic - Gecko

This is a Aotearoa native Gecko. They are quite rare now as cats have thinned their numbers a lot. The problem with native animals here is that they are not good at dealing with the foreign invaders like cats, dogs, rats, stoats, ferrits... I don't know a lot about Geckos. When I was a kid I used to keep the ones that my cat brought inside (yes, I am part of the problem) as pets. This one was really small. Smaller than your index finger. Yes, YOUR index finger.

San Nakji for President!

That is a heck of a geck-o. ;-)

Um, so what if someone with a one millimeter index finger reads this?

We don't have them here, I don't think. I believe it's too hot and dry here. But, we do have lots of lizards. My favorite little one is called the Horned Toad. If you hold them upside down in your hand and gentle rub it's belly, it relaxes and falls asleep. hehehe

But, they are now on the Endangered Species list, so I can't pick them up anymore.

Surprised cats are quick enough to squish them. I'm assuming they don't try to eat them as well...We get newts here but not sure there are any native geckos. Love them all.
