Weekly Animal Pic - Dugong

This week it is the Dugong. The Dugong, otherwise known as the Sea Cow (obvious reasons) can be found swimming in the tropics around Queensland in Australia, New Guniea, Soloman Islands and Vanuatu. I was desparate to see one when I went to Vanuatu a while back, but the tame one the villagers played with had just died... One day I will see one, one day!

San Nakji for President!

I hope you can see my picture of the Dugong, because my computer at home is not letting me see her!

*sighs* I cannot see it.

Oooh...these are like manatees that are found near southern Florida. When I lived in Miami, we would go down to see the manatees.

I think the only difference is that dugongs live in salt water and have a tail like a whale. Manatees live in fresh water and briny environments and have a flat paddle-like tails. But, they are definitely very close relatives of each other!
